Ink For A Cure
It’s not often in this industry that you get to combine causes into one event, because the presence of more than one charity or organization could detract attention from the others, etc. However, we had the incredible opportunity to work two causes and organizations into one event this past weekend, and it was so amazing!
Most of you may know that MFEO Matches founder Laurel Moring started her philanthropic journey by creating a Light the Night team in honour of the Dear Jack Foundation in 2012 (as that was the main way the DJF were contributing to fighting cancer at that time). Since that time, her team has gone on to raise over $25,000 in four years. One of the team’s main fundraisers over those years has been Ink for a Cure. And so, this year we were able to have an MFEO Matches booth at IFAC for double the impact! The Toronto Dear Jack Foundation Light the Night team raised over $6000 to help end blood cancers, and we signed up 24 people for the bone marrow registry! It was a humbling day all around.
We must send out huge thanks to everyone involved in the day – the super-human Black Rose Tattoo Parlour artists who tattooed their hearts out for 9 hours straight, all the other staff and volunteers both from the parlour and from the team, our amazing volunteer Emma-Lee who kicked butt getting registrations, Canadian Blood Services for helping with our booth, all the businesses who donated extremely generous prizes for our raffle, and finally all the clients who came to get tattooed in support, give donations, or get swabbed! The event was incredible and we are so grateful to have been a part of it.
